Service Terms
These Service Terms add rules for specific MapKnock features. They are part of the Terms of Service and apply when you use the feature they describe. Words defined in the Terms of Service mean the same here.
1. Contact lookups
A contact lookup (also called a reveal) finds owner phone numbers and emails for a home. Before each lookup you confirm, and by confirming you certify, that you will use the result only to market your own home-related products or services to that household, and for no purpose listed in the Terms of Service section on property and contact data.
- The price shows before you confirm. You are charged only for a result the product describes as billable; misses and errors are refunded automatically.
- Phone numbers are checked against the National Do Not Call Registry, state do-not-call lists, known litigators and opt-outs before they are shown, and labeled with the result and date. A label is a check at that time, not a promise about the future or a grant of consent.
- A number shown in a lookup is not consent to text it. Texting requires the person’s opt-in on your MapKnock page.
- Looking up the same home again within the window shown in the product is free.
2. Texting
Registration. To text, your business must be registered with The Campaign Registry and the carriers. You authorize MapKnock and its messaging providers to submit your business’s legal name, EIN, address, website, contacts, use case and sample messages on your behalf, to act as your reseller for that registration, and to share that information with carriers and registries. You promise it is true and complete and you will keep it current. Registration and carrier fees are passed through at cost and are not refundable if a carrier rejects or suspends your campaign. A carrier’s or registry’s approval of your campaign is not a finding that your texting is lawful.
Consent. You may text only people who opted in to texts from your business on your MapKnock opt-in page, under the Messaging Policy. Consent can’t be imported, bought, borrowed from another business or inferred from a lookup, a website visit or a conversation.
Numbers. A phone number MapKnock provides is assigned to your workspace while it is active and in good standing; you don’t own it. On request, and once your account is paid up, we will help you move the number to another provider where the carrier allows. Numbers we reclaim after your workspace closes may be reassigned after the carrier’s waiting period.
Delivery and filtering. Carriers may filter, delay or block messages, and we may hold or block a message, campaign or number to protect recipients or carrier standing. We don’t guarantee delivery. Carrier fines or surcharges caused by your messages are charged to you.
Records. MapKnock keeps opt-in, opt-out and message records for at least five years. You may export your own records. We may give them to carriers, regulators or courts when required, or to defend a claim.
3. AI features
MapKnock’s AI features draft and improve messages, read and label replies, suggest answers, and help search. Output is produced automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete or unsuitable. It is a suggestion, not advice.
- A person on your team reviews AI output before it is sent. You are responsible for every message you send, however it was written.
- Don’t use AI features to impersonate a real person, mislead anyone about who they’re talking to, or make claims you can’t back up.
- If someone asks whether they are talking with a person or a machine, answer truthfully.
- We don’t use Your Content to train AI models, and we use AI providers whose terms don’t let them train on it. We send AI providers only what a feature needs.
- AI features may use credits, shown before use, and may have usage limits.
4. Direct mail
MapKnock prints and mails postcards, letters and cards you design or upload, through a print and mail partner, to the homes you choose.
- Your content. You approve each design and proof and are responsible for it: its claims and offers, its images and fonts, your contractor license number where the law requires one, and any required disclosures. You grant MapKnock and its print partner a license to reproduce your design to fulfill your order.
- What we won’t print. Mail that looks like a bill, invoice, utility notice, court paper or government document; that implies a government, utility or other business sponsors you; that makes deceptive savings, financing or tax-credit claims; or that breaks the Acceptable Use and Content Policy. We may refuse or cancel any piece.
- Opt-outs. Homes whose owners opted out on MapKnock are left out automatically. Honor any mail opt-out you receive directly.
- Price, cancellation and refunds. The price per piece, including postage, shows before you confirm. You may cancel a mailing for a full refund until the cancellation window shown in the product closes. After that the mailing is final and not refundable, except for pieces we fail to produce. Postage increases are passed through.
- Delivery. Mail is handed to the U.S. Postal Service. Delivery dates are estimates, tracking events are as reported by the Postal Service, and we aren’t responsible for postal delays, losses or returned mail.
5. Website visitor identification
This feature uses a tag you place on your website to recognize some visitors and match them, where possible, to a household in your service area, through an identification partner. You may use it only on websites you own or control, and only if you:
- post a privacy policy on the site that says a third-party service identifies visitors and may match them to a name, postal address and email; why you use it; and how to opt out, including a link to the MapKnock privacy choices page;
- get any consent the law requires before the tag runs, for example through a consent banner, and don’t load the tag for visitors whose browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal;
- keep the tag off pages about health, medical or mobility needs, children, financial hardship or government benefits, and off pages that collect sensitive information;
- use matches only to market your own home-related services by mail or in person. A match is not consent to text or call anyone, and must never be used for eligibility decisions; and
- honor opt-out requests you receive and tell us about them.
You are responsible for your website’s compliance with wiretap, privacy and consumer protection laws, including California’s Invasion of Privacy Act and similar laws in other states, and the indemnity in the Terms of Service covers claims about your site. Matches are probabilistic and may be wrong. We limit matches to your chosen ZIP codes and monthly cap, and we may pause the feature at any time.
6. CRM and other integrations
When you connect another service, such as a CRM, you authorize MapKnock to access it with the credentials you give, and to send and receive data between it and your workspace as the integration describes. Your use of that service is governed by your agreement with its provider. We aren’t responsible for its availability, security or changes, or for what it does with data you send to it. MapKnock Data you send to your CRM remains subject to the Terms of Service.
7. Permits and public records
Permit, parcel and other public records come from government sources that differ by county and change without notice. Coverage, update timing and accuracy vary. Records are provided for your marketing research only, not as an official record, title, survey or appraisal.
8. Free plans, trials and beta features
Free plans, free credits, trials and beta features are offered as is, may be limited, changed or ended at any time, and are subject to the lower liability limit in the Terms of Service. Free credits are granted once per business and have no cash value.
