Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how MapKnock LLC (“MapKnock”, “we”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal information, and the choices and rights you have. It covers our website, the MapKnock service, and people whose information is in MapKnock without using it, such as homeowners. MapKnock LLC does business under the name “MapKnock”.
1. Who is responsible for your information
MapKnock decides how and why information is used (it is the “controller” or “business”) for our website, our customer accounts, and the property and contact information we license and provide to businesses (“MapKnock Data”).
For information a business puts into its MapKnock workspace, such as its notes, customer lists and text conversations, that business is in charge and MapKnock processes the information on its behalf as its service provider, under our Data Processing Addendum. Questions about that information are best sent to the business; we will help it answer.
2. What we collect
Visitors to our website
What you type into our forms (name, work email, company, phone, industry, team size, area served and message); a keyed one-way hash of your IP address, browser type and the page you came from, to stop spam; a random first-party visitor ID and the ad or link that brought you, to learn which pages lead to sign-ups; and, if enabled and you allow it, Google Analytics and Google Ads cookies. See the Cookie Notice.
Businesses that use MapKnock and their users
Account details (name, email, role, sign-in and two-factor records), business details (legal name, EIN, address, website, license, contacts, carrier registration details), billing details handled by our payment processor (we don’t store card numbers), what your team records in the workspace, product usage, device and log information, and support conversations. If your team uses MapKnock away from the office, the service may record where and when activity on a property happened.
Homeowners and residents
Information about homes and their owners from public records: owner names, mailing and property addresses, property characteristics, assessed and estimated values, sale history and building permits. When a business pays for a contact lookup, owner phone numbers and email addresses from licensed data providers, with their do-not-call and line-type status. Notes a business records about its contact with a household. We don’t collect Social Security numbers, financial account numbers or driver’s license numbers about homeowners.
People who opt in to a business’s texts
The mobile number, name and address given on the business’s opt-in page, the words agreed to, when, the page and the device or network address it came from, messages exchanged, and opt-out status. This information is collected for the business and covered by its text message privacy notice and section 7 below.
Visitors to our customers’ websites
If a business uses MapKnock’s website visitor identification, an identification partner may recognize some visitors to that business’s site and match them to a name and postal address in the business’s service area. The business must disclose this on its own site.

3. Where it comes from
- From you, when you fill in a form, opt in, sign up or contact us.
- From businesses that use MapKnock, about their own customers, prospects and team.
- From government records, such as county assessor, recorder and permit offices.
- From licensed data providers that compile contact information from public and commercial sources, and from do-not-call, litigator and line-type checking services.
- From our identification partner, for visitors to customers’ websites.
- Automatically, from your browser or device when you use our website or the service.
4. How we use it
- To provide the service: show homes and records, run contact lookups, send texts and mail that businesses approve, and sync CRMs.
- To honor choices: opt-outs, do-not-contact marks, deletion requests and suppression across every workspace.
- To check numbers against do-not-call and litigator lists and label whether they may be contacted.

- To secure the service, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our terms.
- To understand and improve the service and our website, including with aggregated or de-identified information.

6. Sale, sharing and targeted advertising
In the past 12 months we have sold identifiers, customer records, property and commercial information and inferences about homeowners to home-service businesses, as described above. On our marketing website, Google Analytics and Google Ads, when enabled, may count as “sharing” for targeted (cross-context behavioral) advertising. We don’t sell or share information about people we know are under 16, sensitive information, or precise geolocation, and we don’t use personal information for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
You can opt out of the sale and sharing of your information and of targeted advertising on our privacy choices page, with “Your privacy choices” at the bottom of every page of our website, or with a Global Privacy Control signal.
7. Text messaging
Mobile information and text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with or sold to third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. A phone number collected through a business’s opt-in page or a text conversation is used only to run that business’s text program and honor the person’s choices. It is never added to contact lookups, sold, or provided to another business. Each business’s text program has its own text message terms and privacy notice, linked from its opt-in page.
8. How long we keep it
- Website form requests: while we are in contact with you and up to 24 months after.
- Website analytics identifiers: up to 12 months; campaign details: 90 days.
- Customer account and workspace data: while the workspace is active, then deleted within 90 days of closing, apart from backups kept up to 35 days more.
- Billing and tax records: 7 years.
- Property records: while they remain part of the public record and our licensed data.
- Contact lookup results: while the business’s workspace is active, refreshed or removed as our sources change.
- Opt-ins, opt-outs, do-not-contact marks and messages: at least 5 years, to prove consent and honor choices.
- Deletion and opt-out requests: a minimal record (such as a one-way hash of a phone number or email and the property) for as long as needed to keep you off our lists.
- Security logs: up to 13 months. Information under a legal hold: until the hold ends.
9. Your rights and how to use them
Wherever you live in the United States, you can ask us to:
- confirm whether we process your personal information and give you a copy of it in a portable format;
- tell you the categories of information we collected, its sources, our purposes, and the categories of third parties we disclosed it to;
- give you a list of the specific third parties we disclosed your information to (a right Oregon law provides, which we extend to everyone);
- correct inaccurate information;
- delete information we collected from you or about you;
- stop selling or sharing your information and stop using it for targeted advertising; and
- appeal our decision on any of these requests.
How. Use the privacy choices page or email privacy@mapknock.com. An opt-out takes effect right away and needs no verification. For access, correction and deletion we confirm your identity by matching details you give with our records, and may ask for more if a request is sensitive. An authorized agent may make a request for you with your signed permission; we may ask you to confirm it.
When. We answer within 45 days. If we need more time, up to 45 more days, we will tell you why within the first 45. Requests are free up to twice in 12 months.
Appeals. If we decline a request, we will explain why. You can appeal by replying to our answer or emailing privacy@mapknock.com with “Appeal” in the subject. We will decide within 60 days and tell you the result and the reasons. If you disagree, you may contact your state attorney general; in Oregon, the Oregon Department of Justice.
No discrimination. We won’t deny you service, charge you a different price or treat you differently for using these rights.
10. Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, our website treats it as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of your information and of targeted advertising for that browser, and doesn’t load advertising cookies. To apply the opt-out to information not linked to your browser, such as a homeowner record, also use the privacy choices page.
11. Children
MapKnock is for businesses and is not meant for children. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16, and we don’t sell or share information about people we know are under 16. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Security
We protect information with encryption in transit, access limited by role and enforced in the database, two-factor authentication for administrators, secrets kept on our servers, logging and monitoring, vendor security reviews, and a written information security program. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information we will notify you as the law requires.
13. Data broker registration
Because we provide information about homeowners to businesses, MapKnock is a data broker under some state laws. We register in each state that requires it before providing data about its residents, starting with Oregon. Registries are published by the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services, the California Privacy Protection Agency, the Texas Secretary of State and the Vermont Secretary of State. See the Notice to Homeowners for where our information comes from and how to remove yours.
14. State-specific information
California. This policy is our notice at collection and describes, for the last 12 months, the categories of personal information collected, their sources, purposes, the categories sold or shared and to whom, and how long we keep each (sections 2 to 8). We don’t use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that would require offering a right to limit. California residents may also ask, once a year, about disclosures to third parties for their own direct marketing; we handle that as an access request.
Oregon, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia and other states with privacy laws. The rights in section 9 cover the rights these laws give, including appeal. Oregon residents may request the list of specific third parties described there.
Nevada. Nevada residents may opt out of the sale of covered information using the privacy choices page.
15. Changes to this policy
We will update the date at the top when we change this policy. If a change is material, we will tell customers by email or in the product before it takes effect, and we won’t use information collected under the old policy in a materially different way without consent where the law requires it.
