Acceptable Use and Content Policy
MapKnock exists to help honest local businesses reach homeowners in ways those homeowners would welcome. This policy lists what you may not do with MapKnock, its data or your messages, and what happens if you do. It is part of the Terms of Service and applies to everyone who uses a workspace.
1. Be honest
- Don’t impersonate anyone, including another business, a utility, a government agency, an inspector or a real person.
- Don’t make false, unsupported or misleading claims about prices, savings, financing, tax credits, rebates, warranties, licenses or results.
- Don’t invent urgency, such as fake deadlines, fake “final notices” or claims that a home failed an inspection.
- Don’t hide who is contacting the homeowner or why. Every message names your business.
- Don’t disguise links, use public link shorteners, or send people to a page that differs from what the message says.
- Don’t spoof caller ID or send from a number or brand you aren’t authorized to use.
2. Respect consent and opt-outs
- Text only people who opted in on your MapKnock opt-in page, as the Messaging Policy describes.
- Don’t buy, rent, share, import or borrow phone lists or consent, and don’t ask anyone to opt in for another business.
- Stop contacting anyone who asks you to, however they ask, and record it in MapKnock.
- Don’t try to get around opt-outs, quiet hours, daily limits, suppression lists or any other safeguard, for example by using another workspace or tool.
- Don’t use MapKnock for robocalls, prerecorded calls or autodialed calls.
3. Content we don’t allow
Don’t use MapKnock to send, print, publish or promote content that:
- is sexual or adult; promotes hate, violence or discrimination against any group; or harasses, threatens, bullies or shames anyone;
- offers or promotes alcohol, tobacco or vaping, cannabis or hemp-derived products, illegal drugs, firearms, ammunition or weapons, gambling or sweepstakes, or adult services;
- offers loans as a product in themselves, debt relief, credit repair, high-risk financial services, “get rich” or work-from-home schemes, or lead generation for third parties. Financing for your own work is fine when its terms are described accurately;
- is political or issue advocacy, or a solicitation for donations;
- infringes anyone’s copyright, trademark, privacy or publicity rights;
- contains malware, phishing or a link to a site that harvests information; or
- is otherwise unlawful, fraudulent or deceptive.
4. Use data responsibly
- Use property, permit and contact data only to market and provide your own home-related products and services.
- Never use it to decide anyone’s eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, housing or tenancy, for debt collection, or for any purpose under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
- Never use it to locate, track, stalk, intimidate or expose a person, or to infer their race, religion, health, sexual orientation or immigration status.
- Don’t resell, publish or share it, or copy it out in bulk.
- Don’t record sensitive information in notes or fields: health conditions, disabilities, financial account or government ID numbers, information about children, or a person’s race, religion or sexual orientation.
5. Visiting homes
- Follow local solicitation permits, ordinances and hours, and respect “no soliciting” signs.
- Leave when asked, and mark the home “do not contact” in MapKnock if the owner asks not to be contacted.
- Wear identification, say who you work for, and never pressure, mislead or frighten a homeowner.
- Never use MapKnock while driving.
6. Protect the platform
- Don’t access another workspace’s data, probe or test for vulnerabilities, or get around security or usage limits.
- Don’t scrape, crawl or copy the service or its data with bots or scripts, or overload it.
- Don’t share sign-ins, create workspaces to get extra free credit, or resell access.
- Don’t reverse engineer the service or use it to build a competing product.
- Report security issues to legal@mapknock.com instead of exploiting them.
7. What happens if rules are broken
We may review content, messages, mail designs, settings and activity in your workspace to enforce this policy, keep the service secure and meet legal and carrier requirements. If we believe something breaks this policy, we may, at our discretion and in proportion to the risk:
- block a message, mail piece, campaign, design or tag;
- pause texting, lookups, mail or visitor identification for your workspace;
- suspend users or the workspace, or end the Agreement; and
- report unlawful activity to carriers, data providers or authorities, and cooperate with their investigations.
We will tell you what we did and why, unless the law or an investigation prevents it, and give you a chance to respond. If you think we got it wrong, write to legal@mapknock.com and we will review it.
8. Reporting abuse
If a business using MapKnock contacted you in a way that breaks these rules, tell us at legal@mapknock.com with the date, the number or address used and what was said. Homeowners can also stop contact from every MapKnock business on the privacy choices page.
