Notice to Homeowners
If a local business contacted you about your home and mentioned MapKnock, or you found your property here, this notice explains what MapKnock is, where its information comes from, and how to stop it. You don’t need an account to use any of the choices below.
1. What MapKnock is
MapKnock LLC provides software to roofing, solar, HVAC, remodeling and other home-service businesses. They use it to see homes in the areas they serve, recent building permits and property details, to keep track of their own customers and visits, and, when they choose to pay, to look up an owner’s phone number and email. Each business decides whom to contact and is responsible for how it does so.
2. Where the information comes from
- Public records. County assessor, recorder and permit records: owner names, property and mailing addresses, property characteristics, assessed values, sale history and permits.
- Licensed data providers. Companies that compile contact information from public and commercial sources. We use them only when a business asks for a contact lookup, and we check the result against the National Do Not Call Registry, state lists and opt-outs.
- The businesses themselves. Notes about their own contact with you, such as a visit, an estimate or a request not to return.
3. What MapKnock doesn’t do
- MapKnock is not a consumer reporting agency. Its information may not be used for credit, insurance, employment, housing or tenant decisions.
- We don’t collect or show Social Security numbers, bank or card numbers, or driver’s license numbers.
- We don’t sell text message opt-ins, and businesses can’t text you just because your number was looked up.
- We don’t publish personal information on public web pages.
4. If you got a text
Texts sent through MapKnock come from the business named in the message, from its own registered number, only to people who opted in on that business’s MapKnock page. Reply STOP to end texts; this also stops texts from every other business on MapKnock. If you never opted in, please tell us at legal@mapknock.com with the date and the number that texted you, and we will investigate.
5. Your choices
- Stop contact and the sale of your information. Enter your phone, email or address on the privacy choices page. We stop providing it to every business on MapKnock and block texts to the number, usually at once and always within 10 business days.
- See, correct or delete your information. Use the request form on the same page or email privacy@mapknock.com. We answer within 45 days. If you ask us to delete it, we keep only a minimal record so your information isn’t added back from our sources.
- Use an agent. Someone you authorize in writing may make these requests for you.
Your opt-out blocks your details in every MapKnock workspace. Businesses that already copied them into their own systems control that copy, so you may also want to ask the business directly.
6. Data broker registration
Providing homeowner contact information to businesses makes MapKnock a data broker under the laws of some states. We register with each state that requires it before providing data about its residents. More detail is in our Privacy Policy.
7. Questions
Email privacy@mapknock.com. For a concern about how a business contacted you, email legal@mapknock.com and include what happened.
